Campi ya Kanzi

Campi ya Kanzi is composed by six luxury tented cottages  and by two tented suites. Each of them enjoys a different view, and accommodates one or two guests. An extra bed can be added for a child.

Four tented cottages feature twin beds, and the remaining two cottages and the suites have a king-size bed, all with feather mattresses and specially made linens imported from Italy.

Furniture was made at the camp with local logs (trees fallen by elephants). A table, two safari chairs, a colonial trunk, kilim rugs, brass lamps, shelves and hangers for your clothes, and daily fresh flowers complete the interior décor of the tented cottages. The suites feature a clothes room between the bedroom and the bathroom, and a sitting area next to the bed. Both suites enjoy an astonishing view of the lodge’s waterhole and of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

All accommodations are constructed of stones, canvas, and wood, and they feature a full elegant bath with shower, bidet, basin, flush toilet and electric light. Bathrooms in the suites have double sinks. Brass plumbing fixtures add an unexpected touch of elegance and comfort, with hot (solar heated) and cold running water.

Each accommodation has a wide veranda to let you enjoy superb views of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the Tsavo Hills, and the Chyulu Hills.

Our state-of-the-art solar power system provides 220-volt electricity for the entire camp at any time (plugs and sockets are 2 pins, Italian).

Tembo (“Elephant” in Kiswahili) House is the heart of the camp. The clubhouse has a thatched roof and is beautifully constructed of local materials such as lava rocks and native timbers (collected in a National Forest where there is a sustainable plantation). Italian and Maasai décor are tastefully combined. It is open to the outdoors, and from its terrace you’ll have a spectacular view of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Tembo House has a large lounge where you can enjoy our books about Africa, relax with a refreshing drink after your safari, listen to classical music while watching wildlife drinking at the nearby waterhole, and much more.

You will also take your meals at Tembo House, with your hosts – Luca and Antonella. Crystal glasses, fine table settings and candlelight dinners will be a highlight of your Campi ya Kanzi experience. Our cooks are specially trained in the preparation of fine Italian cuisine (home made fresh pasta, risotto, biscuits, bread, ice-cream…), which we feature along with international and local dishes. Fresh vegetables are supplied by our organic vegetable garden, as well as fresh milk from our organic dairy and fresh eggs from our chickens. Wines are from Antonella’s Italian vineyards, specially bottled for Campi ya Kanzi.
