Safari is quite a charming word. It is exotic and iconic at
the same time. Safari means "voyage" or
"expedition" in Kiswahili. With us your safari will
translate into a unique authentic experience: you will discover a
vanishing Africa, explore an incredible wilderness, while being
deeply immerse in an iconic culture.
We will tailor-make your safari to meet your needs. At other
safari camps, guests frequently find themselves tied to an
inflexible, predetermined safari schedule. Not so at Campi Ya
Kanzi: our guests really appreciate that they can work directly
with their professional guide to design each day's safari
and activities, with the knowledgeable suggestions of your
guide.
All will depend on your desires, the time of the year (game
moves within the reserve and certain safaris are better in
certain time of the year) and the length of your stay.
By choosing a walk in the savanna or in the cloud forest with your Maasai tracker, or a more traditional game drive in our open Land Rover, you will experience a connection with the local culture which is unique, profound and genuine, while enjoying pristine wilderness and observing amazing wildlife.
Imagine a day that begins with the aroma of Kenyan coffee or
tea brought to your tent by your personal Maasai attendant. On
your veranda, enjoy your coffee or tea and the view of Mt.
Kilimanjaro, wrapped in the pink light of dawn. Then head out
for your morning walk or game drive.
After your safari, return to the camp for a breakfast that
includes fresh local fruit such as mango and pineapple or enjoy
a picnic breakfast in the middle of the savanna, complete with
eggs and bacon cooked on a bush fire.
Following breakfast, you can enjoy an escorted safari on foot,
or just relax at the camp. At lunchtime, we can organize a
grand picnic for you, under a huge ficus in the plains, or
in the fascinating cloud forest of the Chyulu Hills; or
you could dine at Tembo House and then take an afternoon
siesta. In the afternoon you will be able to walk from camp to
one of the nearby hills, enjoying a superb sunset, or you may
decide to explore more distant parts of the 280,000 acres
reservation on a game drive, looking for the thrill of finding
cats. At dusk your drive back to camp will feature a
"night game drive", with your tracker using a
spotlight to find the shy leopard or the fierce lion.
Back at camp a drink next to the bush fire under the starry
African sky will be the perfect ending to an unforgettable
day.
A candlelit dinner will spoil you with home made pasta or
risotto, choices of meat or fresh lake fish, organic vegetables
from our garden, home-made ice cream or tiramisù made by
Antonella, and wine from her vineyards. This sample gives you
an idea of the menus we offer: home made lasagne, as a starter;
roast duck with lionnaise potatoes and backed fennels, as main
course; mixed Kenyan cheeses; home-made ice cream, with hot
chocolate sauce, for dessert.
