Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust (MWCT) was founded in 2000 by Luca Belpietro and Antonella Bonomi. The Trust started small, but grew into the key player in the conservation of the entire ecosystem. It currently employs nearly 200 local people and has an annual budget of US$1,000,000.
The current board is composed of:

  • Samson Parashina, President (Head guide of Campi ya Kanzi)
  • Luca Belpietro, Executive Director (Founder)
  • Stephen Mwenesi, Legal Adviser (Legal expert on community land policies)
  • James Robertson, Conservationist Adviser (Founder Mara Conservancy)
  • Daniel Woodley, Conservationist Adviser (Senior Warden Tsavo West National Park)
  • Muterian Ntanin, Director Game Scouts program (passionate conservationist from the Maasai community)
  • Edward Norton, as President of Maasai Wilderness Conservation Fund (MWCF)
  • Pio Cabanillas, as founder of Maasai Fondaciòn (MF)

7 Maasai men and 3 Maasai women, chosen by the community, serve in the Advisory Board with three Maasai from the Executive committee of the Group Ranch, representing together the community needs and visions.

The Simba Project (compensating the Maasai landlords for livestock losses caused by predators) is implemented through 10 elders (Simba elders), each representing a different zone of the Group Ranch.

Health and Education programs are also implemented coordinating the input received by dispensaries committees and parents schools committees.

The above group of passionate people joinlty contributes to determine the policies and programs of MWCT, with the effort of bringing into the Trust the community's views.
